Tarek, I love this story. I also love a good fist bump. And also: the recognition of doing challenging things while others are doing challenging things is one of my favorite things.

Thank you Kelsey! How kind. I used to do more challenging things but I’m not 30 any more!

Tarek: what’s challenging for each of us is different every single day. Getting out there and doing the damn thing counts as “challenging.” You’re showing up for yourself and that’s not our cultural default.

There truly is something about a fist bump that sends a message...maybe different messages to different people depending on what we need. For me, when someone gives me a fist bump, it feels like approval...and in my head I get a message such as, "you got this!,"..."good job!" Dopamine is definitely involved. Never once have I had a negative feeling when someone gives me one, but I have had negative feelings during handshakes...some feel agressive and others send a message that suggests, "I don't really give a c--- about you but here ya go." I love a good fist bump too!
