One day I caught myself doing this every time I received a compliment about something. "Oh, this old thing?" was a mantra. "I actually got this at K-Mart!" or "Thanks but I'm covering up this stain," or, when someone told me my painting was good I'd say, "I actually think anyone could do this." I realized I was actually telling the person, "You don't know what you are talking about. You must have zero taste."
No. We had one in the town I lived in before this...Helena, MT. It's closed now. I now live in a town where there are zero chain stores or food places. It's glorious. LOL Especially after spending thirty years in Los Angeles!
Love this post. Working on the art of receiving and this piece is very helpful.
Thanks Kathy! It’s a lesson I need to remind myself of often.
Thank you Tarek! Great post…this will be shared with family, friends, and colleagues. Proverbs 16:24
Thank you David!
"Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones".
So so good!!
Thank you Nicholas!

Linda, great insight. Give the compliment-giver the gift of receiving their praise. On a side note, do you have a K-Mart near you? :-)
