She Rated It a 2
hen COVID took the job. Then everything changed.
Listen here.
I don’t normally send mid-week notes. This is a short one.
Today, I went live on Substack and walked through a shortened version of a masterclass I taught in March. The full version was an hour. Twenty-five people in the room. A few stories I’m still thinking about.
I’ll tell you about two of them.
Shauna told us about her old job. She rated it a 2 out of 5. Just enough to keep showing up, not enough to feel anything. Then COVID hit, and she lost her job. She told us losing that job was the best thing that ever happened to her. She’s thriving now, in work that actually fits who she is.
Then there was Nigel, a leader from Canada who was on a mission trip to Zambia. The first morning, he was frustrated by something most of us would be — there was no hot water. Later that day, he saw something that changed how he saw his own life.
I keep thinking about those two stories. They had nothing to do with promotions, titles, income, or “getting ahead.” They were about the moment a person stops measuring their life by what the world celebrates and starts measuring it by what actually fits them.
That’s what the masterclass is really about.
If you want to watch the full hour: Shauna and Nigel in their own words, the framework I walked everyone through, and a couple of moments I won’t try to summarize, here’s the recording:
If something in those two stories sounds like you, that’s not an accident.
See you on Sunday.
