"In the torment of the insufficiency of everything attainable, we learn that
ultimately in this world, there is no finished symphony."
-Karl Rahner
Read that quote again at a slower pace. There is no finished symphony. We never arrive. What are the top 3 areas of your life where you want to do more, be more, get more? Here are mine at the moment:
Write my book
Replace my 12-year-old 4Runner
Redo the entire 2nd floor of our home
Oh, and I need a new suit for my daughter's wedding this summer (the reason #2 and #3 are on hold). These things tend to nag me at the back of my brain. A to-do list that is always there. What if I could snap my fingers and those things were done today? Would I then be satisfied?
Nope.
Perhaps you’re better than me at this. I hope so. There’s always a “what’s next” in my world. It's hard to keep my mind from spinning into the next level of achievement. I always want more. I scale one mountain and see the next one that needs climbing.
Here’s a takeaway for me today. It’s Sunday. I need to rest. I mean, really rest. I might fall asleep to Jim Nantz’s soothing voice on the golf telecast. Perhaps I’ll read a book. Susanna and I may wander to our local brewery and enjoy each other’s company. I may watch our dogs sleeping peacefully and be thankful for the unending devotion and joy they bring us. I will stop striving for a few hours and just appreciate all the ways God has blessed me.
Today, I wish you rest and peace. Fill your own tank so that you can give your best to serve others in the coming week. Have a wonderful Sunday!
I had scheduled this post the day before. Little did I know we’d survive a middle-of-the-night tornado that caused destruction across our community. Thankfully, we are okay and have had the chance to help many of our neighbors. So, I didn't relax on the couch, but I hope you all did! Thankful for all the crews working hard to get power restored.
