One of my favorite memoirs ever. I also had a blessed life by comparison, and I'm certain I wouldn't have had the courage, stamina, or grit that Viola did. But her story—and the meaning you glean from it for your own life and for ours—is inspiring, albeit challenging.

What other memoirs do you love? Trevor Noah's "Born a Crime" is another favorite of mine.

I was astounded by her story. Truly. Unbelievable grit. I have a cakewalk by comparison. I just finished Patrick Stewart's "Making it So." He didn't have quite the hardships by comparison, but still grew up poor, had a father who abused him and his mom. It's an inspiration to turn hard things into good.
