“We’re running from a future we DON’T want instead of toward one we do.” This is so true! At least it was for me for most of my life - until I learned about combining my faith with mindset renewal. I’m so thankful to be on the other side now and it’s great to see you are too! 👏🏻👏🏻
You’ve put your finger on the real mechanism: the brain as a prediction machine.
Most people live inside a fear-based prediction loop—spending today avoiding a future self they dread. What you’re describing is the shift into a magnetism-based loop: letting a future self you’re already becoming pull your choices forward.
That’s the difference between grinding toward a goal and being organically rearranged by a new identity. The goal isn’t to reach your Future Self. It’s to let its gravitational field start governing now.
Your mother didn’t give you the rules. She held the vision of that future identity until you were strong enough to inherit it. That’s the quiet, powerful work.
how kind Mo. Thank you. True, we never arrive, but we do get to choose our habits which ultimately determine our destiny. My mom was a wise woman. Have a great week!
And what a gift to see your mom at the end of the piece. It was a gift to get to know Karen and witness her gentle guidance with the kids in Owl & Panther.
It's so true Tarek. So many of us outsource our future to everyone else. How did this happen? I'm reading Mel Robbins book "Let Them" right now. She has a point; "If you are struggling to achieve your goals, the problem is the power you give to other people." It resonates with what you have written here. Thanks for a great article.
The timing of this is uncanny, which is a beautiful thing but also a hard pill to swallow. Maybe it boils down to never learning how to dream. I was raised to stay the (safe) course and be practical in my life's decisions. Once I realized this, I started resisting. And because of it, I've had amazing experiences traveling, chasing my curiosity, and giving my all in whatever job presents itself in the gaps between my travels. But now, it's time to work. And I feel stuck. As you put it (in the interim of finding my own purpose), I outsource — helping others to succeed at their purpose. At the end of the day, it's not fulfilling and I'm not inspired. I think about — what if I could figure out what I would like to do, or create, or manifest for my future. I've done all the things — Ikigai, Myers Briggs, Strong Interest Inventory, journaling, meditating... just can't figure it out. Thanks for sharing — and thanks for listening, as always!
I completely get that Christa. I spent most of my life chasing what I thought I was “supposed” to do. The safe path. I learned that life isn’t safe!
In the meantime, all the lessons you’ve been learning, the travel you’ve been doing…hear this. None of it is wasted! It’s helping you become who you were meant to be. I have a tool that may be useful to you. I’ll send you a DM.

That’s so encouraging Lacey. My faith is the bedrock. We get to choose what we focus on and it matters!

A profound truth, Tarek. Habits are the daily rituals of becoming.
Wishing you a great week as well, Tarek. Your mother’s wisdom lives on in your work.
Lovely charge to us.

Thank you Marge. I owe her so much.
